Our name " of Struss " is Low German that form of Strauss, like e ostrich..
Therefore, the surname seems to Struß-Struss in Northern Germany predominantly.
(Exceptions confirms the rule)
There were also Struss families in Arbon, Switzerland that itself later and until today, Strauss names.
Also, some Struss families are Munich in the area and in Freiburg existing. Presumably, these families are Strauss offshoots of the surname frequently existing there.
I have been able to find the origin of the name in Northern Germany only at 3 trunks of the Struß families unequivocally until now.
With 2 families, it has been a house-name, as in Brunswick and in Oerlinghausen.
And the origin of the Strauß-Struß name in Schweringen, there, the name of a property comes - the Strußwerder.
Formerly an island in the Weser, grows over with ostrich-grass.
As said that is only 3 explanations and until now I have found 20 different Struss-branches approximately.
